As you might be aware, the Center for Advanced Cement-Based Materials is organizing the Third North American Conference on the Design and Use of Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC 2008). The conference will take place November 10-12, at the Chicago Marriott O'Hare. I am writing to invite you to join other leaders in the field to participate as a sponsor.

The past two conferences (held in 2002 and 2005) were extremely successful. Each had attendance beyond our expectations with the 2005 conference hosting over 400 attendees. Of that number, 60% were from the industry - including representatives from large companies to smaller materials suppliers. This year's program includes a special track for the practitioner including a tutorial, panel session and special keynote talks.

In addition to the practitioners’ track there will be over 85 presentations from leaders in the cement and concrete field representing industry, academia and government agencies. The goals of the conference are to raise awareness of the diverse issues hindering the acceptance and utilization of SCC in the field, to transfer knowledge to participants so that they can be better equipped to overcome those barriers, and to promote a greater interaction between North American researchers and international users of SCC.

A strong factor in the success of past conferences was the support provided by our exhibitors. The financial and marketing assistance allowed us to keep registration fees at a low affordable rate, thus allowing the large number of industry attendees. With this in mind we are seeking your support. Sponsors already include BASF, Lafarge, Axim, Euclid, Grace, PCA and the FHWA. It's not too late to join the other leaders and be included in the forthcoming conference announcement.

Kind regards,
Richard Garza
